About The Event
Joya no Kane (New Year's Eve Bells): At midnight, Buddhist temples across Japan ring their large bells exactly 108 times. This ceremony is a core part of the Zen tradition and is believed to cleanse people of the 108 earthly desires (bonnō) that cause human suffering, allowing for a fresh start in the new year.
